Gradually, the port of Shanghai exceeded the port of Guangzhou and the port of Ningbo  to become the largest port of China at the time.

It is Indeed no surprise that the worlds biggest ports in the world are all located in China. Over the many years, Singapore was Renowned as the world's largest container port.. Today, that seaport has been overtaken by Shanghai (Port of shanghai) for some two years now. Mainland China sea ports account for 70% of the top 10 sea  ports in the world. The United State of America  is way down in the worlds busiest sea ports list.

The Port of Shanghai is managed by Shanghai International Port which superseded the Shanghai Port Authority in 2003.Shanghai International Port Company Limited is a public listed company, of which the Shanghai Municipal Government owns 44.23 percent of the outstanding shares .SIPG also posted a four per cent year on yearnet profit of decline of CNY6.5 billion (US$988.7 million) in 2015, against a profit of CNY6.77 billion the year before. But revenue was up 2.5 per cent year on year to CNY29.5 billion.
